Alpina Unveils Its Final Independent Model: The B8 GT
Alpina, the legendary BMW tuner-turned-manufacturer, has introduced its ultimate standalone creation: the B8 GT. Based on the BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupe, this luxury sports sedan boasts a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine, delivering an impressive 634 horsepower and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque. With these specs, the B8 GT rockets from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, positioning itself as one of Alpina’s fastest four-door models.
Key Features of the B8 GT
The B8 GT builds on the already-powerful M850i by adding signature Alpina tuning, enhancing performance, handling, and luxury. Compared to the standard M850i (530 hp, 750 Nm) and even the regular Alpina B8 (621 hp, 800 Nm), this final iteration delivers even more raw power and precision. Paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the B8 GT can reach a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h)—on par with Alpina’s B5 GT.
Other performance highlights include:
• Aerodynamic carbon-fiber elements, designed to enhance stability at high speeds.
• 21-inch forged Classic wheels, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires for optimal grip.
A Luxurious Interior
The cabin of the B8 GT is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, featuring:
• Hand-stitched natural leather upholstery.
• Exquisite wood trim accents.
• A highly exclusive option: only 99 units of the B8 GT will be produced, with 20 of them featuring a striking two-tone exterior in blue/green with black accents.
Pricing and Exclusivity
In Germany, the Alpina B8 GT is priced at €225,000 (approximately $245,000). For comparison:
• The BMW M850i xDrive starts at €134,900 ($147,000).
• The BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe starts at €180,500 ($197,000).
The End of an Era
The B8 GT marks the end of Alpina as an independent manufacturer. By the end of 2025, BMW AG will fully integrate the Alpina brand into its operations. While Alpina will continue to create exclusive, performance-focused versions of BMW models, its independent status will fade into history.
The future of Alpina is already taking shape under the guidance of Maximilian Missoni, the former Polestar designer, with new models set to be unveiled soon. For now, the B8 GT stands as a fitting farewell to Alpina’s rich legacy of blending extreme performance with bespoke luxury.
